Although concrete rebar has ribs that bind it mechanically to the concrete, it can still be pulled out of the concrete under high stresses, an occurrence that often precedes a larger-scale collapse of the structure. To prevent such a failure, concrete rebar is either deeply embedded into adjacent structural members (40-60 times the diameter), or bent and hooked at the ends to lock it around the concrete rebar. This first approach increases the friction locking the bar into place, while the second makes use of the high compressive strength of concrete.
Steel has an expansion coefficient nearly equal to that of modern concrete. If this were not so, it would cause problems through additional longitudinal and perpendicular stresses at temperatures different than the temperature of the setting.
Concrete formwork is a concrete frame construction method used to support reinforced concrete and is a quick and easy way to aid building. By using Murform as your concrete formwork contractors you can improve the safety, speed and productivity of your construction.
Murform Structures Ltd was formed in Jan 2000 by brothers Damien, Larry and Peter Murphy, who started their careers as shuttering carpenters during the early 1980’s in the UK, progressing to subcontracting from the early 1990’s and moving back to Ireland in the late 1990’s to continue subcontracting, eventually forming Murform Structures in 2000.
Having had the experience of working on the tools and having being actively involved in the day to day running of the business from day one, they have ensured efficiency and quality is paramount throughout the company. This commitment and dedication has seen the business grow considerably year on year, to become one of Ireland’s largest concrete, formwork and rebar subcontractors.
Recent demands and growth have seen the construction industry expand to unprecedented levels over the last few years and Murform Structures continues to expand and adapt to these demands through extensive investments in formwork and machinery.
Recent purchases include a substantial quantity of Peri Sky Deck quick strike soffit formwork, Efco climbing stair/lift core formwork and various other systems from RMD, Doka, Peri and SGB.
Further investments have also been made with the purchase of a number of Manitou 2150 360 degree swivel teleporters (available for hire complete with driver) which can be very useful when cranes are winded off or, to reduce the excessive daily demand on tower cranes and the inevitable delays associated with this.
In 2006 as part of the on going development of Murform Structures, the company was completely restructured and the directors were joined by commercial manager Paul Harland. This restructure has allowed the company to facilitate much larger projects, ranging from €50,000 to in excess of €20 Million.
